With spring just around the corner, our thoughts already drift to fresh-air motoring and summer road-trips. But first we need to prepare our vehicles for the slush and rains of spring! Over the course of the winter months your pride-and-joy has undoubtedly accumulated a great deal of dirt, dings, and other winter debris from its snowy travels. Plus its protective wax coating has probably also been stripped off by the snow and cold.
You can rest easy though, for Mayfield Toyota is here! Just follow these five tips and you’ll have your car, truck, or SUV in perfect condition just in time for spring!
#1 Change out Your Tires
Chances are like most Albertans you’ve installed winter tires to help keep your vehicle on the road during those frosty months. But now that the snow has started to melt and temperatures are rising, it’s time to swap them out for something better suited to warmer weather. And if you find yourself in need of a new set of rubber, check out our Tire Store to find a huge selection of tires specifically for your vehicle!
#2 – Check Your Oil
Over the course of winter, your vehicle has relied heavily on its oil to keep things running in the frigid cold. Well, now’s that spring is just around the corner, there’s never been a better time to check your oil! Don’t be surprised if your vehicle has burnt a bit of oil over the winter months, or that your oil needs to be replaced altogether. If your oil needs to be changed, or you’d rather let the experts check it for you, just make an appointment online and our friendly service technicians will be happy to help!
#3 – Get an Alignment
Like most drivers, chances are you haven’t given your car, truck, or SUV’s alignment much thought. Your alignment is important however, as it affects your vehicle’s stability, handling, and even fuel economy! The ruts, potholes, and maybe an accidental trip into a snow bank (we won’t judge you, promise!) has messed with your alignment. Set it straight again by asking our Service Department to check your alignment – plus if you do it at the same time as your tire swap, you can save yourself time and money!
#4 – Break out the Polish
As we mentioned before, the snow and cold of winter tends to strip your vehicle of its protective wax coating. If not replaced quickly, this can lead to premature rusting (and nobody likes rust). So now that the sun’s out once again, there’s no better time to break out the wax and a little bit of elbow grease. Or, if you prefer to leave the grunt-work to us, contact our Detailing Department to schedule an appointment!
#5 – Check Wiper Blades and Fluid
Winter is draining on your vehicle, and nowhere is this more evident than your wiper blades and windshield washer fluid. The freezing cold of winter can perish the rubber blades of your wipers, causing them to leave streaks and ‘skitter’ across your windshield. Plus you’re going to need all the washer fluid you can get to deal with the slush and spray of spring! These are fairly simple jobs you can perform yourself, and our Parts Department will carry all the Toyota-recommended parts and fluids you need!
